Movie Review: "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit"

As someone who is completely new to the world of "Wallace & Gromit", I appreciated the artistry with which the claymation universe was constructed, and the visual richness of "The Curse of the Were-Rabbit." Technical aspects aside, "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" is an average children's film, entertaining for the little ones, but containing only a smattering of jokes that will entertain adults as well. My kid loved it, but I was counting the minutes down toward the end.
Spoilers follow, so the spoiler-shy should skip the rest of this article.
Wallace & Gromit are a man and dog team that operate the Anti-Pesto rabbit catching agency that protects their vegitable growing British town from pesky bunnies. Rabbits are quite abundant in Wallace & Gromit's town, and make a nuisance of themselves on a regular basis, kept only in check by the fact that seemingly every house has its garden wired with Anti-Pesto's bunny detecting alarm system. W & G carry on business as usual until Wallace gets the crazy idea that he can use a mind altering device that he's constructed to warp the brains of the bunnies not to crave vegitables anymore. It seems to work at first, but has the unfortunate side effect of turning Wallace into a were-rabbit. Which is just a like a werewolf, except for when the moon comes out he becomes a giant vegitable ravaging bunny instead of a man-eating wolf.
The hijinks are amusing for a time, and there is some really cute stuff. My favorite bit from the film is a particular bunny who gets Wallace's personality burned onto him and actually thinks he is Wallace. The whole thing wore me out after a while and by the big showdown at the end I just wanted to see the credits roll than see if (rather, how) the villain gets foiled. But the kid was glued to it. So it works in that way.
In a year where quality children's movies have been few and far between "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit" is a welcome bit of mediocre entertainment.
2/5 Stars.
