Movie Review: "The Legend Of Zorro"

Some of you may remember back in May that my local AMC Theatre screwed me and a few "Star Wars" geeks by printing tickets that said "Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge Of The Sith" would be playing at 12:01 AM on Wednesday May 18th. Which was pretty exciting at the time, since it was a full day earlier than it was supposed to come out. Well it turns out that the idiots simply mis-printed the tickets.
Tonight the same theater gave me a reminder of their foolishness. My wife and I, fresh from a Child CPR class that our instructor no-showed at, decided we'd take advantage of the babysitter time to go see a movie. I really wanted to go see "Jarhead", but I couldn't convince her of it. (If I had told her it was about that guy in the Archie Comics, I might have had better luck, but I try to be honest, so no dice. I'm quite certain she doesn't know her Jarheads from her Jugheads.) I was, however, able to convice her to check out "The Legend Of Zorro" since it would have us home at the appropriate time for the babysitter to leave. Or so we thought.
When we walked into the 7:30PM showing of "Zorro 2" we were puzzled. First, it was 7:29PM and the movie was already running, which as we know, is improbable due to the requiste 20 minutes of commericals before a film starts. And there was a real big explosion on-screen. Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones were hiding behind some rock, and looking exhausted and relieved. At this point, I became 99.999% certain we were watching the end of the film. Then there was a ceremony with Abe Lincoln declaring California a state and after that some renewal of wedding vows ceremony, further locking up the idea that it was the end of the film. And the Zorro rode off into the sunset, posing in picturesque fashion with on his horse as the red sun set against the backdrop of desert. Shortly thereafter the credits rolled.
As it turns out, these fools had a 7:30PM showing on their sign, because the lazy ass at the counter decided to put tomorrow's showtimes on the sign tonight, before all showings had ended. Brilliant. Thankfully, we weren't the only ones duped by their unintentional ruse, so we were able to get a refund.
What I did see of "The Legend Of Zorro" showed me that I really don't want to watch the whole thing. Not like I couldn't have guessed it ended happy or anything, but I got the sense the Zorro kid would be REALLY annoying, like he'd make Jake Lloyd look like Haley Joel Osment. And what I saw confirmed my sense that this is a film I might have been interested in watching about 2 years after the original Banderas flick came out, but not so much now.
Since I didn't see the full movie, I won't go so far as to put a star-rating on this review, but I did see enough to tell you not to bother.
